A woman was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Friday morning after she crashed her vehicle into Little Connoquenessing Creek in Center Township.
Unionville Fire Chief Nathan Wulff said the one-vehicle accident happened about 9:30 a.m. on West Brewster Road.
Two people were inside the car. The passenger had some minor injuries but the driver was submerged and trapped.
“The car was upside down in the water,” Wulff said. “It was only three feet of water but the way the lady was sitting her head was under the water.”
Wulff credited his assistant chief- who happened to be at work less than one mile away- and a Good Samaritan with saving the woman.
“They absolutely made the difference in getting her out of the car,” he said. “When you’re submerged under water, time is absolutely of the essence.”
It’s unclear what caused the crash.
