New Castle is mourning the loss of a local sports announcer who was killed Thursday.
Mark Schaas, 53, died from injuries he sustained in a fiery crash on Interstate 76 in Youngstown, Ohio that involved five vehicles including three semi-trucks.
Schaas was a sports broadcaster for WKST Radio and an announcer for games around Lawrence County. For the last several years, he did the play-by-play for New Castle High School basketball games.
Schaas had some roots in Butler County. He got his education at Slippery Rock University in Butler County.
