The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New York Mets 11-1 Sunday and took two of three games in their series. Pirates starting pitcher Trevor Williams allowed just the one Mets run over seven innings. The Bucs had 15 hits in the game, with Andrew McCutchen, David Freese and Francisco Cervelli picking up three hits each. McCutchen hit his 9th home run of the season, and drove in three.
The Pirates have an off-day today and visit the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow. The Bucs are 26-31 overall, four games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central Division.
The Butler BlueSox won their fourth game in a row with a 4-2 victory Sunday over West Virginia. It completed a four-game, home-and-home sweep of the Miners. Sox starting pitcher Mike Klingensmith allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings for the victory. Butler is now in second place in the Prospect League Eastern Division. They have an off-day today, then host Champion City Tuesday at 6:35pm. It is a Kids Run the Bases Night.
