Butler Memorial Hospital is making way for additional parking through the elimination of five houses on East Brady Street.
Mark Edwards, Risk Manager and Safety Officer at Butler Memorial Hospital told our newsroom, “Those were houses that the hospital had owned for many years but the parking problem got so bad that we thought it was time to better utilize that space over there.”
Those buildings were previously used by the hospital as offices, storage, and a sleeping area for on-call staff.
Two lots will be created with one on either side of Fourth Street totaling an additional 82 spaces or an 8% increase in hospital parking. Parking at Butler Memorial Hospital is free and this addition should help patients and visitors to have easier access.
“We’re hoping that this will alleviate the problem. What we want to do is mostly use that for employee parking so that the patients and visitors can have the spaces closer to the hospital,” Edwards explained.
The parking project is expected to be completed by the end of June.
