High School Sports from Thursday:
–Eight girls from the Butler high school track and field team qualified for the state tournament Thursday at the WPIAL Individual championships at Baldwin high school. Jena Reinheimer won the gold medal in the discus with a school record throw of 140-feet, 4-inches. She also placed third in the shot put. The 1600-meter relay team of Maddie Tonini, Liz Simms, Shana Hoy and Alexis Leech also took first place with a new school record run of 3:53.05. Taylor Weaver took the silver medal in the pole vault with a career-best 12-feet. The 3200-meter relay team of Alexis Leech, Erin LeMay, Maggie Welty and Liz Simms took silver. Leech took third in the 400-meter run, and Simms placed fourth in the 800.
The state championships will take place May 26th & 27th at Shippensburg University.
Knoch’s Jordan Geist set new WPIAL records in the Shot Put and Discus. Geist had a threow of 73-feet, 10-3/4 inches in the shot put, and a throw of 208-feet, seven inches in the discus.
