The Butler Area School District will hire a new girls varsity basketball coach.
By a vote of 6-3, the board accepted Athletic Director Bill Mylan’s recommendation to open the position formerly held by Joe Lewandowski.
In light of conflicting stories about the job Lewandowski did as coach, some board members pointed to their trust in the evaluation process done by administrators. Other board members attempted to explain their decision by saying that the specifics of personnel issues cannot be discussed in public.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools Dr. Brian Slamecka, a job description will be posted as soon as possible and assistant coaches will be asked to run open gym workouts which are now getting underway.
