The Pittsburgh Pirates were hammered by the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-1 last night. Rookie Trevor Williams went only three innings in his first start. He allowed six runs, including a grand slam in the first inning. The Pirates had just five hits in the game and struck out 17 times. The two teams play again tonight at 10:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 9:45pm.
Williams was making a start in replacement of Jameson Taillon, who has been diagnosed with testicular cancer. He had been put on the disabled list with groin soreness over the weekend prior to the discovery. Taillon underwent surgery Monday.
The Pirates summoned bench help Monday from their minor league team in Indianapolis. The bucs promoted Chris Bostick and Max Moroff, and optioned Elias Diaz and Phil Gosselin to Indy. Moroff started at second base last night and struck out in all three of his at-bats. Bostick entered the game as a pinch-hitter before playing left field and struck out twice. At Indianpolis, Bostick was batting .324 and Moroff had eight home runs in 24 games.
