A family of four will not be able to stay in their Butler City apartment following a Friday afternoon fire.
A call came into the Butler County 911 Center just before 1 p.m. for reports of smoke coming from the window of an apartment on the second floor of the building at the corner of Broad and West North Streets.
Fire fighters and EMS from Butler City and Butler VA quickly responded to the scene along with the ladder truck from Butler Township Fire District 3 also called out since Butler City’s ladder truck is currently out of commission. It is believed that school police across the street at Broad Street School noticed the smoke and made the call to 911.
Part of Broad Street was shut down to vehicle traffic for 15 or 20 minutes but reopened as crews cleared the scene shortly after. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
