The Penguins will be without defenseman Kris Letang for the next 4-to-6 months after it was revealed Wednesday that he will need surgery for a herniated disc in his neck. Letang had missed the past 20 games in an attempt to avoid surgery.
Both Olli Maata and Trevor Dailey practiced with the team Wednesday in Cranberry Township, and have accompanied the Pens on their road-trip.
The Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers 2-0 last night and have clinched the Metropolitan Division and the President’s Cup for the second consecutive season. The Capitals will have home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
