If you head to PNC Park this year, you’ll see some new faces on the field, but the one the Pirates introduced yesterday had a purse.
During their tour of new amenities at PNC Park, the Pirates revealed a new pierogi will be racing during the in-between innings action. Pizza Penny will join the other five pierogi’s who race during the middle of the fifth inning at Pirate home games.
Pizza Penny dons a red checkered hat along with a matching red purse and heavy eyelashes. She joins the field of Sauerkraut Saul, Cheese Chester, Jalepeno Hannah, Oliver Onion, and 2015 addition Bacon Burt.
The Pirates also revealed new additions to PNC Park for the upcoming seasons Thursday during a tour for media. The out-of-town scoreboard in right field is now a LED video board that will still have scores from around the league on it, but it will also be able to show video replays. There will also be new menu options around the ballpark, as well as seating areas. The Pirates have a full list of improvements and renovations available on their website.
The Pirates kick off the regular season Monday in Boston. The home opener will be Friday, April 7 against the Atlanta Braves. The games will be broadcast live on WISR 680 AM.
