South Butler County School Board members and teachers’ union representatives continue to meet in an attempt to break a 1,000 day stalemate.
According to district solicitor Tom Breth, the two sides met in a sidebar conversation for about 90 minutes Monday night which is a less-formal off-the-record form of conversation about issues with a goal of finding common ground. No formal written proposals were exchanged by the sides but the board made it known that it is important to agree to a new health care plan so that it can begin July 1st.
According to Pennsylvania State Education Association representative Brook Witt who is handling these negotiations for the union, the sidebar was a worthwhile use of time. Witt said that she believes that honest conversations leading to a settlement are productive.
Sidebar discussions are expected to continue Monday, April 3rd. Updates from the school board about the state of negotiations will continue to be posted to the district’s website.
