The Slippery Rock University indoor track and field teams learned Tuesday that three members will be heading to the NCAA Division II National Championships March 9-th through 11th in Birmingham, Alabama.
The athletes include Slippery Rock high school graduate Ryan Thompson, who is the only representative from the Rock men’s team. Thompson’s time of 4:05.72 in the mile is the fastest time any male in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference history has ever clocked indoors. He is seeded 12th in a field of 16 national entries. Thompson is a senior in his final year of eligibility and is making his first career appearance at a national championship.
Just missing the cut for a national championship appearance was Butler graduate Kennedy Evans, who was just two one-hundredths of a second off the final accepted entry in the 60-meter hurdles. She narrowly missed an SRU school record last weekend at the state championships.
The Rock track and field teams are led by head coach John Papa.
