High School Sports:
WPIAL Playoffs–
–The Butler boys basketball team defeated Latrobe Saturday and have advanced into the WPIAL Class 6-A semi-finals. Butler will face Woodland Hills Wednesday at 6:15pm. The game will be played at Fox Chapel hih school. Hear the game on WBUT 1050am beginning at 6pm. Both teams enter the game 16-8 overall.
–The other 6-A semi-final will put Pine-Richland (22-1) up against North Hills (19-5). The game will be played at North Allegheny high school. Pine-Richland defeated Canon-McMillan 87-74 Saturday. North Hills defeated Penn Hills 59-58.
Tonight (Monday): The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic boys (19-5) will face Washington (20-4) at Moon high school in the Class 3-A semi-finals. Tip-off is 8pm.
The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (21-2) girls face Beaver (17-5) at Moon high school at 6:30pm in the 4-A semi-finals.
–Tuesday-The Mars boys (15-8) will meet Hampton (15-9) at North Allegheny high school in the Class 5-A semi-finals.
–The Mars girls fell to Oakland Catholic 54-41 in the Class 5-A quarterfinals Saturday.
–The Karns City girls defeated Moniteau 36-35 Friday in the District-9 Class 3-A championship game. Livia Andreassi grabbed a rebound on her own shot, and scored the game-winner as time expired to give the Gremlins their fourth consecutive title. Karns City will face the District-10 runner-up in the opening round of the PIAA tournament March 11th.
–The District-9 3-A boys title game between Karns City and Brookville will be played Wednesday at 7:30pm at Clarion University.
–In Class 1-A: The AC Valley girls meet North Clarion Tuesday in the semi-finals at Clarion University. The Lady Falcons defeated Dubois Central Catholic 44-36 Friday.
–In District 10-Class 5A semi-finals, the Slippery Rock girls will face Hickory Wednesday at Slippery Rock University. Tip-off is 7:30pm. Slippery Rock defeated Warren 41-32 in the semi-finals.
–The Grove City boys will meet Harbor Creek in the D-10 4-A semi-finals at SRU Tuesday at 6pm.
–The Portersville Christian boys won the Southwest Christian Athletic Conference championship Saturday with a 55-45 victory over Cheswick Christian.
–In the girls championship game – Aquinas Academy defeated the Portersville Christian girls 44-27.
