A resolution supporting non-discrimination in the City of Butler was approved by Butler City Council Thursday night.
Butler City Mayor Tom Donaldson proposed the resolution supporting non-discrimination in the city of Butler, which passed by a vote of 3-1 with one abstention. Councilwoman Kathy Kline voted against the resolution because negotiations about an ordinance are ongoing while Councilman Mike Walter abstained for the same reason.
The resolution states that council is in favor of showing “proper respect for the dignity of all members of our community” regardless of a variety of factors including gender identity and expression.
Members of groups in favor and opposed to an ordinance to create a Human Relations Authority in the City of Butler last met in December and will continue to meet with a goal of a compromise.
