The Pittsburgh Penguins traded for Carolina defenseman Ron Hainsey Thursday. The Pens sent a 2017 second-round draft pick and minor league forward Danny Kristo to the Hurricanes. Hainsey, who is 35, is considered a “stay-at-home” defenseman who has never played in a post-season game. The move was needed by the Pens in part due to injuries at defense. Ollio Maata remains out of the Pens line-up for the next month, and the Pens learned Thursday that Trevor Daley will miss the next six weeks because of surgery on his left knee. Defenseman Justin Schultz has been out with a concussion, and now Kris Letang is listed as day-to-day with an “upper body” issue.
The Pens host the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday in the NHL’s “Stadium Series” at Heinz Field. Face-off is 8pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 7:30pm.
