The Butler High School Boys Basketball team defeated Baldwin in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs 71-62 Wednesday night.
The Golden Tornado gained an early lead in the first quarter and were never behind in the game. Butler was ahead 35-27 at halftime and then 49-39 at the end of the third quarter. Baldwin chipped away at the Butler boys and brought the game within two points in the fourth quarter but the Golden Tornado went on an 11-4 run over the next couple of minutes to put the Highlanders away.
Leading in scoring for Butler was Joel Stutz with 20 points who was also 5-5 from the foul line. Freshman Ethan Morton had a great night with 16 points which included four 3-pointers. Tyler Fredrick also had 16 points on the night to help seal the win for Butler.
Butlers record is now 15-8 overall on the season. This is the first playoff game the Butler boys have won since 2012 against North Allegheny. They move onto the quarter finals on Saturday February 25, 2017 to play Latrobe. Time and place for this game has not been determined at this time but we will bring you that information as soon as its available.
