The Pittsburgh Penguins have been a strong third period team this season, but last night they scored the first three goals of their game with the Florida Panthers in the first period, and went on to a 5-1 victory. The win was their fourth in a row, improved the Penguins record to 17-7-3 overall. They remain tied with the New York Rangers for first place in the Metropolitan Division, after the Rangers defeated Winnipeg 2-1 last night.
Sidney Crosby scored his 18th goal of the season to open the scoring. Five different Penguins scored goals in the game. Goaltender Matt Murray stopped 28 shots for his ninth victory of the season.
The Pens visit the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow night. Face-off is 7pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:30pm.
