A bad crash Friday night in Butler Township snarled traffic for hours.
Police say the vehicle vs. pedestrian accident happened about 7:30 p.m. Friday on the on-ramp to Route 422 from Route 356.
According to Butler Township Police, 52-year-old Jeffrey Fox of Kittanning was driving east on Route 422 when he struck a pedestrian. Police say the pedestrian- 57-year-old Leonard Benson of Armstrong County- was in the road picking up a car part that fell from his nearby disabled vehicle.
Officers say Benson ran out directly in front of Fox’s vehicle.
Benson was seriously injured and flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. Fox and a passenger in his vehicle were not hurt.
A portion of Route 422 eastbound was closed for several hours Friday evening. Firefighters from the Butler Township Fire District and Butler Ambulance crews were on scene.
Benson was listed in stable condition Monday morning.
