The four-day bear season ended on Wednesday but some local hunters will be able to take advantage of an extended bear season beginning next week.
Extended bear season will run from Monday, Nov. 28 through Dec. 10. in Wildlife Management Unit 2B, which includes portions of southern Butler County and most of Allegheny County.
To participate in extended bear season, hunters need both a general license as well as a bear license.
Through the first three days of bear season, statewide totals have decreased from last year, including in Butler County where eight bears have been harvested compared to 16 last year at this time.
