Former Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Neil Walker has signed his $17 million qualifying offer from the New York Mets. Walker joins Philadelphia right-handed pitcher Jeremy Hellickson as the only players to accept their qualifying offers. Eight other players chose to become free agents.
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager was the unanimous selection as National League Rookie of the Year. Seager batted .308 with 26 home runs last season.
Detroit Tigers right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer won the American League Rookie award. Fulmer was 11-7 last season with a 3.06 ERA.
Former Pittsburgh Pirates second-round draft pick Stetson Allie has signed a minor league free agent deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Allie was drafted as a hard-throwing pitcher, but was later converted to outfielder and first baseman due to control issues. He has hit between 16 and 21 home runs each of the past four seasons, but never hit for a solid average while with Double-A Altoona.
