Three of the top four teams in the Associated Press football rankings lost over the weekend for the first time since 1985. Following Pitt’s 43-42 upset win over Clemson, the Tigers have dropped from the #3-ranking to #6.
Michigan lost 14-13 to Iowa and the Wolverines fell from #2 to #4. Ohio State rose from #6 to #2 overall, followed by Louisville at #3. Alabama remains #1.
Penn State topped Indiana 45-31 and have climbed to #9 in the latest AP football rankings.
The Slippery Rock University football team ended their season with a 57-15 victory over East Stroudsburg Saturday. Rock quarterback Don King, III ended the game with school records in yardage and seven touchdowns. King had 527 yards passing, with receiver Marques Johnson pulling in 10 his 28 pass completions for a school-record 237 yards. Johnson also tied a school record with four touchdown receptions. The Rock completed a 7-4 season under first-year head coach Shawn Lutz.
The NCAA Division II playoff football teams were announced Sunday. California is the number one seed in Super Region One. Cal defeated Kutztown 49-7 Saturday to win the PSAC championship. The Vulcans will have a first round “bye” and will await the winner of IUP at Fairmont State this Saturday.
Shepherd will host Assumption and LIU-Post will host Winston-Salem State in the other Super Region One games.
