Slippery Rock University has been recognized for teaching earth-friendly farming practices.
SRU’s Macoskey Center for Sustainability Systems Education and Research was named a Blue Ribbon College Farm by Online College Plan. The 83 acre SRU facility ranked number 17 on a list of 60 nationally.
Rankings were determined using a variety of factors including farm size, crop variety, and sustainability related degree options.
SRU students farm many different crops at the Macoskey Center including peppers, squash, zucchini, radishes, corn, pumpkins, onions, watermelons, apples, and cucumbers. Students also raise free-range chickens at the center. The Center receives compost material daily from the SRU dining halls.
