When Sprint Cup Series teams check into Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson will be the center of attention as two favorites to win Sunday’s Triple-A Texas 500. Johnson has won the track’s fall race the last four years and has additional momentum, having won last weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Busch entered the 2016 Chase as the Number-1 seed and won this year’s first stop on the Fort Worth oval on April 9th . Season sweeps are not that unusual at T-M-S. It’s happened three times in the last eight years: Johnson in 2015, Denny Hamlin in 2010 and Carl Edwards in 2008 … Johnson leads all drivers with six Cup Series wins in Texas. Edwards is his closest challenger with three victories. Busch is a two-time winner there, getting his first victory in 2013.
Fans headed to Texas Motor Speedway this coming weekend will be treated to three races with championship implications, beginning Friday night in the Camping World Truck Series. Johnny Sauter has already advanced to the championship race on November 18th . Over the next two weeks, the five other title contenders are vying for the three remaining spots. Top-seeded William Byron presently holds the fourth and final transfer spot, nine points ahead of Matt Crafton. X-FINITY and Sprint Cup Series races will follow in Fort Worth on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, as the 2016 season heads into its final three weekends.
