WPIAL Girls Volleyball quarterfinals:
4-A: Seneca Valley swept Upper St. Clair 3-0 to earn their ninth trip to the semi-finals over the past 11 years. The Raiders will meet Hempfield Thursday.
3-A: Knoch defeated Chartiers Valley 3-1. Sarah Armahizer led the Knights with 12 kills. Knoch will face Hampton in the semi-finals Thursday.
Hampton shut-out Mars 3-0.
2-A: Freeport defeated Seton-LaSalle 3-0. The Yellow Jackets will meet Avonworth Thursday in the semi-finals.
WPIAL Soccer Playoffs Thursday:
The Freeport Girls will meet Freedom at 6pm. The Seneca Valley boys will face North Allegheny at 8pm. Both games will be played at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.
The Butler Area Midget Football Junior Varsity team will play Seneca Valley Saturday in the United Football League Super Bowl. The gamne will be played Saturday at Art Bernardi Stadium at 3pm.
The Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team’s season came to an end in a 5-0 loss at East Stroudsburg University in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament.
Slippery Rock exits the year with an overall record of 10-8-1. SRU has now produced 21 consecutive winning seasons; the seventh longest streak in NCAA Division II history. Tuesday’s game marked the seventh consecutive year in which SRU has earned a PSAC Tournament berth
