Slippery Rock University football team announced Monday that all-time leading rusher Shamar Greene’s season will officially be shut down, ending one of the most outstanding careers in Rock history. Greene suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter of the Rock’s game at California October 1st. He was re-habbing the injury in an attempt to return this season, but the determination has been made that surgery is now necessary.
Greene became The Rock’s all-time leading running back this season when he became the first Slippery Rock player to reach 4,000 yards. At the time of his injury in the team’s fifth game of this season, he had 521 yards and seven touchdowns. The senior from Duquesne was a walk-on at Slippery Rock five years ago. He helped The Rock win three PSAC-West titles, two PSAC Championships and make three appearances in the NCAA playoffs.
