With Election Day just 15 days away, state officials are reminding residents of the laws surrounding concealed weapons in polling places.
There are no laws specifically forbidding legally concealed weapons at a polling place in 66 of the state’s 67 counties- Philadelphia is the only exception where their laws are different.
Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes says responsibility is key if you feel you absolutely have to be armed while you vote.
“Voters who have a legal right to carry a firearm can not be prohibited from entering a polling place,” Cortes said. “But we certainly have rules and laws prohibiting certain behaviors. Don’t be touting your gun outside. Don’t use it as an intimidation tool. Leave it at home if you can.”
Cortes does remind permit carriers that some polling places may ban weapons, like courthouses and schools, so think about where your polling place is before you bring your weapon.
“We just ask people to exercise good, common sense,” he said.
