A local lawmaker is trying to ban foreign and religious laws from being considered in Pennsylvania courts.
Representative Daryl Metcalfe has sponsored legislation to prohibit Pennsylvania judges from applying foreign legal systems, such as sharia law, when doing so would conflict with federal or state constitutions.
According to Metcalfe, the goal of his bill is to protect fundamental liberties against the unjust mandates of foreign legal codes. States like Louisiana and Tennessee have had similar laws in place since 2010.
This bill will now be considered by the full Pennsylvania state House of Representatives.
