A public forum will be held in Butler to educate and combat the growing drug crisis.
The meeting will be held in two weeks, Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Butler Intermediate High School from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Leaders from law enforcement, county government, the courts and the medical community will be on-hand to share their experiences with what Butler County Commissioner Chairman Leslie Osche called a ‘public health pandemic.’
“This has reached emergency levels for public health and safety,” Osche said during a county commissioners meeting Wednesday. “We want to show a more unified approach regarding this opioid crisis. It’s affecting everyone and we can’t prosecute or arrest our way out of it.”
In addition to speakers, there will be representatives from several faith-based and support groups talking about their services.
Data shows one person dies every week in Butler County from an opioid-related overdose.
The forum is sponsored by the Butler County Radio Network, the Butler Eagle and the County of Butler.
