The Pittsburgh Penguins open their 2016 season tonight when the host the Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena. Face-off is 8pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 7:30pm. The Penguins will officially “raise the Stanley Cup Champions” banner prior to face-off. Sidney Crosby continues to skate, but will not play tonight due to a concussion. Bryan Rust also is out for the Pens.
The Penguins claimed veteran goaltender Mike Condon off waivers from Montreal this week. He will serve as Marc-Andre Fleury’s back-up until Matt Murray is healthy. Rookie Tristan Jarry was sent down to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The NHL’s top draft pick scored four goals in his first game last night. Auston Matthews had the highest-scoring debut in modern NHL history last night for Toronto, who lost 5-4 in overtime to Ottawa.
