The Mars School Board is considering a request to provide transportation for some students to a unique aviation school.
At a meeting Tuesday, the Mars School Board heard from several parents of students involved with the Aviation Academy at the Community College of Beaver County. The parents would like for the district to contract a van and driver to take the students to Beaver four days a week.
Six students from Mars are enrolled in the program and are earning college credit towards careers like aerospace engineer and air traffic controller. Mars allows students the flexibility to attend the academy but said they would have to provide their own transportation.
According to Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley, the van and driver would cost over $20,000 yearly and no other district sending students to the academy provides transportation.
