The Butler Sequinettes have their white dress back.
Many could recognize the dance team for the Butler High School Golden Tornado Marching Band- known as the Sequinettes- by their wardrobe. An iconic white dress that was worn by the dancers for decades.
But that all changed a couple years ago when the group switched to a two-piece navy pant uniform. That didn’t sit well with some people.
“About eight or nine years ago, they shifted and went with a blue pant and a sequin top,” Band Director Jeff Kroner said. “There was a lot of outcry in the community. People really liked the white dresses that the Sequinettes have had for years.”
Kroner said he knew when it was time to purchase new uniforms, the group had to go back to the white dress, which was designed by Sequinettes’ advisor and former Sequinette herself, Sara McLafferty.
The new uniforms were unveiled during the Homecoming game Friday night.
“These have a lot more sequins on them then they had in the past,” he said. “The entire bodice is covered in sequins and when the girls turn, the color spins and almost has a tornado look about it. It’s really beautiful.”
The Butler Golden Tornado Marching Band will march in the Fort Ligonier Days parade on Saturday and in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Parade in Florida on Dec. 28.
