Slippery Rock University football players Titus Howard (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) and Jake Chapla (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) were honored Monday as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athletes of the Week for their performances in The Rock’s victory over Mercyhurst Saturday night.
Howard was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week and Chapla was named the Special Teams Athlete of the Week. The honors mark the first weekly conference awards in both players’ careers.

Howard had a tackle for safety, and interception and key sack late in The Rock’s win over Mercyhurst Saturday.
Chapla, a true freshman, hit field goals of 44-yards and 51-yards in the first half. The 51-yarder was the second-longest in Rock history.
The Slippery Rock University football team moved up three spots to No. 16 in the latest NCAA Division II national poll released Monday by the American Football Coaches Association.
The Rock will visit IUP Saturday.
