A small group of students from the Senior High School had a rare opportunity to explore local history first-hand.
Four students chosen for their interest in history were among those present at the former Junior High School Friday afternoon to get a closer look at a time capsule dug out of the wall by members of the district’s maintenance team.
A copper metal container a little bigger than a shoebox contained items from 1917 including a Bible, coins, newspapers, a President Wilson War Speech, teacher training pamphlets, a course of study book, and programs from dedication ceremonies.
The box and its contents will now be stored with the district’s current transcripts before other students use a high-definition camera to carefully document the contents. The goal is to have the items available for public display by May.
A different time capsule from the 1990s when the newer building was constructed will be opened later this year.
