In High School Bowling Wednesday:
The Butler high school girls bowling team completed an undefeated season with a 5-2 win over New Castle Wednesday. Makenzie Zimmerman led the Golden Tornado with a 566 series. Kaylee Kniess had the high game with a 211. Julia Black added a 189. Emma Schultz rolled a high game of 174 as Butler went 10-0 to win their WPIBL Northwest Section. Their finish qualifies them for both the WPIBL team championships, but also the Pennsylvania State Western Regional championships. Zimmerman, Kniess, Schultz, Black and Laci Edgington all qualified for the league singles championships.
The Butler boys upset a previously undefeated New Castle team with a 7-0 sweep. Greg Wilbert led the way with a 719 series with games of 232-247-240. Freshman David Fisher rolled a 609 series. Butler finishes runner-up to the Red Hurricanes in their section at 8-2 overall – but also qualify for the WPIBL tournament. Wilbert, along with teammates Micah Potts, David Shever, Connor St. Clair and Daytn Kriess have reached the WPIBL Singles tournament.
Freeport swept Apollo-Ridge 7-0. Colin Cummings led the Freeport boys with a 720 series and a high game of 258. The Yellow Jackets finished runner-up to Armstrong in the WPIBL Northeast Section. Hannah Windows rolled a 700-series and high game of 246 to lead the Yellow Jacket girls, who complete an undefeated season at 10-0.
