A local lawmaker has been appointed to a committee to assist veterans statewide.
Republican State Representative Tim Bonner has been named as chairman of the Veterans Court Study Committee for the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing.
The committee will analyze the need and authority of Pennsylvania courts to more effectively address veterans who have committed criminal acts as well as analyze problems facing veterans, make treatment and punishment recommendations, and suggest parameters for counties to establish veterans courts. A report will be given to the Pennsylvania General Assembly for further consideration and action.
The Veterans Court Study Committee is comprised of three legislators, one judge, two lawyers, and representatives from the United States and Pennsylvania Departments of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Corrections and a Veterans Court administrator.
