In response to several false school shooting reports across Pennsylvania, state legislators are looking to add more felonies to the penalty.
After several hoax calls of school shootings triggering mass response by police and public safety agencies, Republican State Senator Michele Brooks, of Crawford, Lawrence, and Mercer counties, proposed larger penalties for the offense.
The legislation would add new felonies and reimburse affected entities for the cost of evacuations or other responses resulting from the false threat.
Similar legislation passed the senate with bipartisan support in the last legislative session by a vote of 40-10.
