The FBI held another conference call to provide an update to their investigation into the attempted assassination to former President Donald Trump at the Butler Farm Show Grounds.
One of the chief investigating agents, Kevin Rojek, said the shooting on July 13th was a “target of opportunity.”
The FBI has still not determined a motive for why Thomas Crooks attempted to assassinate the former President but did provide more information on his search history.
Prior to the rally Crooks had been researching political events for both President Trump and President Joe Biden, including the dates of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. Agents said that Crooks looked at a number of campaign events, but “when the Trump rally was announced early in July, he became hyper-focused on that specific event and looked at it as a target of opportunity.”
Rojek said they have found valuable information, but still have a difficult time linking to any particular motivation.
“We continue to see through our analysis [of Crooks’ life] a mixture of ideologies,” Rojek said. “I would say that we see no definitive ideology associated with our subject, either left-leaning or right-leaning.
The FBI also did confirm that the former President completed a victim interview.
