Jade’s Dog Park at Alameda Park had to be shut down and sanitized after reports of exposure of a dog disease.
Canine Parvovirus, also known as PARVO, is a disease in dogs that if left untreated could be deadly.
The disease can go undetected so officials are asking residents to “treat everyone with kindness, this was not intentional, everyone loves their pets and wants them to be safe. This is why it was reported, out of caution.”
The dog park will be sanitized in effort to limit the spread of the disease but the most common way for it to spreads would be from dog to dog contact or smelling infected feces.
Symptoms include:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea that is often bloody and foul smelling
- Loss of appetite
- Depressed attitude
- Dull or glassy-eyed stare
If you notice any of these symptoms immediately take your dog to a veterinarian for treatment. It’s advised that adult dogs receive the vaccine yearly for immunity to the disease. While puppies receive a series of vaccines as they mature.
