After reports of an increase in scams, Pennsylvania State Police is informing the public of a common scam attempt.
State police is reminding all residents to ignore any call that claims you can have a warrant cleared by using Bitcoin.
The caller will claim to be from the Sheriff’s office and say you have a warrant. They will then ask for payment via Bitcoin—however you cannot clear a warrant with any agency with Bitcoin. Scammers use Bitcoin as it can difficult to track after being sent.
State Police is asking to share information about the scam, ignore these calls, and report it to your local State Police Barracks.
