The Pirates traded pitcher Quinn Priester to Boston for minor league infielder Nick Yorke. It was a trade of former #1 draft picks for both teams. Yorke was considered the sixth-best prospect in the Red Sox organization. He will report to Triple-A Indianapolis. Priester had gone 2-6 with a 5.04 ERA this season.
The Bucs also sent minor league left-handed pitcher Luis Peralta to the Colorado Rockies for left-handed reliever Jalen Beeks. The 31-year old Beeks gives the Pirates an immediate left-handed arm in the pen, in addition to Aroldis Chapman. Beeks had pitched in a career-high 45 games for the Rockies to this point of the season. He had been the most-used reliever out of the their bullpen. He has nine saves in 16 chances this season. The Pirates made the move after left-handed reliever Ryan Borucki had his minor league rehab assignment paused.
The MLB trade deadline is tonight at 6pm.
Multiple trades were made Monday, including a three-team, eight-player trade between the Cardinals, Dodgers and White Sox.
