The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-1 last night behind the one-run pitching of Paul Skenes over six innings. Bryan Reynolds and Rowdy Tellez both had two doubles in the game and Andrew McCutchen scored twice. Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 15 games.
Skenes allowed a run in the first inning, but shutout the Reds the rest of the way and struck out six. He walked one as he improved to 4-0 this season and lowered his ERA to 2.29. The Pirates are now 6-1 in the seven games he started as a rookie this year.
The Bucs and Reds play again tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Bailey Falter will start for the Pirates. He is 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA.
