The Butler Transit Authority has enacted a local base fare increase for the first time in 12 years.
At their Tuesday meeting, authority board members unanimously voted to finalize the increase of the local base fare by 25 cents from $1.25 to $1.50. All local bus pass prices will remain the same as will all commuter fares and commuter bus pass prices.
This increase goes into effect July 1st. A public hearing was held last month and feedback was also solicited by mail and email but no comments were received.
According to Authority Executive Director John Paul, the sole reason for the increase is inflation which has increased by 36% since 2012 when the local base fare was last increased.
