At last week’s State of the County event, Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel shared some of the goals the County Commissioner Association of Pennsylvania has for the next year.
One of the most crucial goals is acquiring more funding for mental health services so county tax payers aren’t footing the bill when mental health services are called in emergency situations and in the prison.
Commissioners are also considered with the upcoming primary and general election rules on mail in voting. Due to legal battles in the courts, rules have not been defined on what will or will not disqualify a ballot.
There is also interest in raising the minimum cost for a bid to be required for projects. The current amount is $25,000 which was originally set when the law was first written in the 1960s. Accounting for inflation, that amount would be $250,000 today according to county commissioners.
