The Butler High School Football team is getting ready to play outside the WPIAL this upcoming season, however the statewide governing body for high school athletics has different plans.
The PIAA is giving directives to the WPIAL to include Butler among the eight teams in their 6A classification schedule this year.
Butler Athletic Director Bill Mylan said they had made it known to all parties about their intention to play an independent schedule instead.
He says the district is evaluating their options at the moment, which could include legal action against the PIAA.
Butler had played the last four seasons as an associate member of District 10, but the PIAA changed bylaws to ensure that could not continue.
Mylan says he’s not sure how the situation will resolve itself.
