After a year and a half without students, plans to transfer ownership of the Butler Middle School are being revised.
A recent update by Superintendent Dr. Brian White stated that the non-profit Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation has had to modify plans for a “multi-use training and business facility” that included two large tenants since plans have changed for one entity identified as “a large health system”.
The remaining large tenant was identified as the Watson Institute which the district already partners with for students who are transported to Sewickley. It is believed that this provider of school programs for students with special needs still has interest in the property even after the other part of the deal fell through.
The Community Development Corporation is now studying if renovating the existing building for reuse or demolishing the existing building and building a new structure is the better financial option. A recommendation will be made once the analysis is complete.
