Police have charged a woman who spent several thousand dollars that was wrongly deposited into her bank account.
The $6,750 belonged to the Knoch High School cheerleading booster club and was collected during a fundraiser and intended to benefit breast cancer research.
Police say in November of last year, a First Commonwealth Bank employee accidentally placed the money into the wrong account. The owner of that account, Kayla Marie Wade of Allegheny County, pulled a large amount of that cash out the next day.
The bank allegedly notified Wade that the money was placed into her account due to an error, but had no luck contacting her. Police issued an arrest warrant and she has since been charged with theft.
The bank did immediately put money back into the boosters’ account once they realized the mistake.
