Butler cross country runner Drew Griffith won the “Elite Boys Varsity” race at the “Mile Stat” Invitational last Saturday held in Mechanicsville, Virginia – near Richmond. This is an invitational featuring 5,000 runners spread over 16 different races. Drew set the course record in the Elite race with a time of 14:21 over the 5,000 meter race, winning his race by 22 seconds and breaking the previous course record of 14:40. Drew’s time was more than three seconds faster than the former Pennsylvania state record, and was the fastest time in the nation this season. It was also the 16th fastest time for a United States 5k runner ever.
