A large amount of money has been released from the state to help local governments meet pension obligations and support volunteer firefighters.
A total of nearly $3.5 million was distributed to municipalities within Butler County earlier this week by the Department of the PA Auditor General.
Local governments receiving the most include Cranberry Township with just over $960,000, the City of Butler with nearly $450,000, and Butler Township with just over $400,000. Part of that money will be distributed by the municipalities to local volunteer firefighter relief associations while the rest will be used to meet municipal employee pension plan obligations.
This money comes from a two percent tax on out-of-state casualty and fire insurance premiums. For more information, visit PAauditor.gov.
