State leaders are warning residents about a new scam circulating.
The Department of Human Services says this scam deals with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program—also known as SNAP.
People have reported receiving text messages claiming they have been approved for $1,000 in SNAP benefits and must click on the link to obtain them.
DHS says this is an attempt at identity theft, and add that their department will never contact someone by text message.
If you receive this type of message, you are supposed to block the number and delete the text immediately.
