A new report by the state’s attorney general says that fentanyl is now the most dominant opioid in Pennsylvania.
Josh Shapiro’s office issued the report which showed that in last year alone, more fentanyl was seized by investigators than in the previous four years combined.
Shapiro also says that fentanyl has replaced heroin as the number one opioid in the state. He adds that it’s around 50 times more potent than heroin, and also being sold at a much lower cost.
His office cited that synthetic opioids, like fentanyl, are increasingly being found in counterfeit pills.
Last year, more than 5,400 died of an overdose in Pennsylvania.
